A Brilliant Idea

I have been contemplating the idea of writing my autobiography because I am concerned that my memory may deteriorate over time, causing me to forget many of the stories from my life. As I attempted to jot down some of the key events in my life, I realized that there is so much to tell. If I were to start writing now, I might never finish, and in the meantime, more stories may accumulate. So, I've decided that from this point onward, I will periodically post random stories from my life. This way, I can share a story each time without worrying about the chronological sequence. It's also a clever tactic to keep generating content for this blog :D. Perhaps in the future, when I have more free time, I can compile all these stories to create my autobiography. I am fairly certain that I will be the sole reader of that book! ;P

Fear of Interviews - A few strategies to overcome

 

You've got an interview scheduled, and from the moment you receive that notification, the idea of being interviewed becomes a constant presence in your mind. Whenever the HR personnel ask for a suitable time, we often find ourselves postponing it to the next day or even later, all in the hope of securing ample time to prepare. However, during this delay, numerous other tasks tend to take precedence, causing us to miss out on preparation time. Consequently, we end up dedicating the entire day before the interview to frantic last-minute preparations, often regretting why we didn't utilize our time wisely and even wishing for a postponement. Some individuals may go to the extent of contacting HR and requesting a postponement, citing reasons such as a sudden medical emergency.

If the thought of facing an interview makes you nervous, rest assured you're not alone. Studies reveal that a staggering 93% of people experience pre-interview jitters.

Now, let's delve into the reasons behind this nervousness. Why do you think interview anxiety is so prevalent? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.

In my view, there are several contributing factors, though not in any particular order:

The Significance of the Job: The job might be of paramount importance to you, and the prospect of securing it is crucial.

The Uncertainty of Questions: Interviews often resemble exams where you encounter questions you could never have anticipated.

Constant Evaluation: The feeling of being under constant scrutiny, from your speech and presentation to your behavior, can be intimidating.

Lack of Confidence or Self-Doubt: This applies to even the top performers in their fields because everyone has their own unique level of self-assurance.

So, how do you handle this situation? Here are some strategies:

Anticipate Questions: While you can't prepare for every possible question, familiarize yourself with common ones like "Tell me about yourself," "What are your strengths/weaknesses," "Why this job?" and "Why are you leaving your current job?"

Comprehensive Resume Review: Understand that your resume sets the context, and interviewers often base their questions on it. Prepare to elaborate on each point in detail and avoid exaggerating your achievements.

Company and Role Research: Gain insights into the job you're applying for and think about how you can contribute to the company in that role. Research the company to show your genuine interest and prepare questions for the interviewer.

Know Your Interviewer: If possible, research the person who will be interviewing you by checking their LinkedIn profile, projects, and interests. Find any commonalities and use this information to your advantage during the interview.

Visualization: Imagine yourself in the interview, anticipating questions and providing answers as if it were the real thing. Familiarize yourself with the interviewer's photo to create a more realistic scenario.

Active Listening: During the interview, actively listen to the interviewer's remarks and respond accordingly. Connect with relevant points to engage in meaningful conversations.

Once, during an interview, the interviewer asked me where I was from, and I replied, "Hyderabad." The interviewer then mentioned that they had been in Hyderabad in the year 2000 for a few months. Now, at this juncture, I could have simply acknowledged this with a casual "Okay" or "I see." However, I decided to engage further by saying, "Wow, that was the year when I took my IIT JEE exam, and it's a milestone year in my life." This led to a more dynamic and engaging conversation, steering it towards discussing my experiences and achievements related to that period. The key takeaway here is that active listening involves not only hearing but also responding and connecting with relevant points. It can turn a simple question into a meaningful conversation.

Introspection: Get to know yourself thoroughly by documenting important life events, achievements, failures, and significant incidents. This helps you identify your strengths, weaknesses, and anecdotes to share when asked questions.

Remember that practice makes perfect. Consider conducting mock interviews with friends or career coaches to refine your answers and receive valuable feedback.

Interstellar Dreams

As a child, I often found myself pondering the origins of the universe and what it encompasses. However, my understanding was limited to the information provided in my school books, leaving these questions unanswered and lingering in my mind.

In today's digital age, the availability of information at our fingertips has significantly broadened knowledge horizons. Even kids now have access to a wealth of information, surpassing what most adults had during their childhood.

Living in India, we are fortunate to have ISRO, an aspirational organization that continually pushes the boundaries of space research. Their remarkable achievements, particularly highlighted by Chandrayaan-3, have sparked a newfound interest in space exploration among my children. Despite my concerns about screen time, I must admit that their passion for space is undeniable, often immersing themselves in space-related animation videos on YouTube.For me, this is a liberating experience, as the unaddressed questions from my own childhood are now finding resolution through my children's curiosity and exploration.

Recently, I recorded an audio clip of my 3-year-old enthusiastically singing a catchy space-related song he picked up from YouTube. It warmed my heart to see how much he has absorbed and how effortlessly he recites the names of celestial bodies and other cosmic wonders.

Here's a glimpse of what my kids have learned and are fascinated by:Dwarf planets like Ceres, Eris, and Makemake.Moons such as Titan and Europa.Stars like Arcturus, Antares, Vega, and UY Scuti.Constellations like Bootes and Sleeping Beauty.Nebulae like Cat's Eye and Horsehead.

It's incredible to witness their enthusiasm for space exploration at such a young age. It's a testament to the power of accessible knowledge and the wonder of the cosmos that captivates us all.

For the interested ones I am giving a brief description of each those celestial objects.

Dwarf Planets:

Ceres: Ceres is the largest object in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. It is considered a dwarf planet and was the first dwarf planet to be visited by a spacecraft, NASA's Dawn mission. Ceres is unique because it may have water ice beneath its surface and possibly even a subsurface ocean.

Eris: Eris is one of the most massive dwarf planets in our solar system and is located in the Kuiper Belt, a region beyond Neptune. It is known for its role in the reclassification of Pluto from a planet to a dwarf planet. Eris has a highly elliptical orbit and is quite distant from the Sun.

Makemake: Makemake is another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt. It is known for its reddish appearance and is one of the brightest and largest objects in the region. Like Pluto and Eris, Makemake has a relatively distant and eccentric orbit.

Moons:

Titan: Titan is Saturn's largest moon and the second-largest moon in the solar system. It is known for its thick atmosphere and is the only moon with a significant atmosphere. Titan's surface is covered in lakes and rivers of liquid methane and ethane, making it a fascinating destination for future exploration.

Europa: Europa is one of Jupiter's Galilean moons and is known for its icy surface and subsurface ocean. It is considered one of the best candidates for finding extraterrestrial life in our solar system due to the potential habitable conditions beneath its icy crust.

Stars:

Arcturus: Arcturus is a bright orange giant star located in the constellation Boötes. It is one of the brightest stars in the northern hemisphere's night sky and is relatively close to Earth in astronomical terms.

Antares: Antares is a red supergiant star located in the heart of the Scorpius constellation. It is one of the largest known stars in the Milky Way and is easily visible due to its reddish appearance.

Vega: Vega is a prominent star in the constellation Lyra. It is one of the brightest stars in the night sky and is known for its blue-white color. Vega is also a part of the Summer Triangle, a prominent asterism.

UY Scuti: UY Scuti is a red supergiant star in the constellation Scutum. It is one of the largest known stars in the universe, with a radius that dwarfs the orbit of Earth. Despite its enormous size, it is too faint to be seen with the naked eye.

Constellations:

Boötes: Boötes is a constellation in the northern hemisphere. It is often associated with a herdsman or a plowman and contains the bright star Arcturus. It is visible during the spring and early summer months.

Sleeping Beauty (also known as Ursa Major): Ursa Major, also referred to as the Great Bear or the Big Dipper, is a well-known constellation in the northern sky. It is often recognized for its distinctive shape, which resembles a saucepan or ladle. The "Sleeping Beauty" reference might be a regional or cultural variation of its name.

Nebulae:

Cat's Eye Nebula: The Cat's Eye Nebula is a planetary nebula located in the constellation Draco. It got its name because its appearance resembles a cat's eye. This nebula is created by the ejected outer layers of a dying star.

Horsehead Nebula: The Horsehead Nebula is a dark nebula located in the Orion constellation. It is famous for its distinctive shape, which looks like the silhouette of a horse's head. It is a region of dust and gas that obscures the light from the stars behind it and is often photographed in conjunction with the nearby Flame Nebula.

About the pic: Interstellar is my favorite movie and watched it multiple times. The first time I watched it I was spellbound with the concept of Miller's planet. Miller's planet is orbiting a supermassive black hole called Gargantua, which is shown to warp space-time so magnificently that they can see its entire accretion disk, all at once. The unique way it appears in the film was derived from equations that physicist Kip Thorne generated. After passing through the wormhole, Coop's team decide to land on Dr. Miller's ocean planet, orbiting Gargantua, Due to Gargantua's massive gravitational pull, “every hour on that planet is seven years on Earth”. 

Bonus Trivia: Did you know. in the movie, on Miller planet, the soundtrack in the background. has a prominent ticking noise? And these ticks happen every 1.25 second. Each tick you hear is a whole day passing on earth.

Decoding Boss's Anger Reloaded

 

This blog post is an updated version of the theorem postulated a week back by me. This theorem has been arrived after several rounds of brain storming and keeping in mind all geographies, ethnicities, religions, languages, species, aliens..a universal version of theorem is arrived..and here goes the theorem ..

The risk of getting scolded by a Boss follows a bell curve where the risk is highest at t_c.

t_o is the time when the interaction with the boss starts
t_a is the time when the person enters the boss’s cabin :O
t_b is the time when the person leaves the boss’s cabin :)
β_o = g(x) is a functional of all external factors which are beyond your control, a sample of the factors are like         

1) Fight with his/her spouse

                2) Financial problems
                3) Promotion frustration
                4) Work load
                5) Arrogant Daughter's boyfriend
                6) Constipation..etc

k factor is a factor depending on the other colleagues of yours, whose presence affects your boss's behaviour with you. k takes any value from 0 to infinity.

k=0; The colleague absorbs all radiation - Give him a chocolate buddy :)

k less than 1; The radiation is distributed
k=1; Indifference with the presence of colleague
k greater than 1 ; The presence of your colleague is detrimental to you. Keep away from him using the θ.

θ is a binary factor and its value depends on your decisions.

θ = 1 if you are present in front of your boss.

θ = 0 if you are absent.(You may visit the washroom, the bank, the other office,department or get admitted in hospital as well)

The function fp(t) is a normal curve and is very subjective to the person(a subordinate). So it has to be worked out after many trial and errors only.

One should be very careful between t_{a and} t_c during which the damage is maximum.

Decoding the Boss's Anger

β is the risk of getting yelled by Boss.

t is the time spent in the Boss's cabin.

t_o is the time when a person enters the cabin.

Basically the theorem goes like this:- The risk of getting scolded by a Boss goes up with the time spent in his/her cabin and follows a bell curve where the risk is highest at  t_c.

t_c is the critical time.

The t_c is very subjective. It can be worked out only after some trial and error attempts.  

Once you cross the critical time the chances of yelling reduce and it may be due to many physiological and psychological reasons. So one should be very careful during the time between t_o and t_c

This theorem is observed to be an universally accepted fact but never formally documented.

So I take the credit for this noble contribution to humankind.:P

My heart sank...tears rolled in my eyes reading the ordeal she(Amanat) went through on that dreadful day..I was just aware of such incident happening but not the details..till I read this post, which gives an account of the horrific acts done by the 6 rapists...the act of pulling intestines out is so devilish..

My take on the incident

I tried to understand on why people commit rapes.. following this post...and they say revenge is one of the reasons.... Which I see ..is also the case here.. But that is with the main person who started the fight.... So why did the others follow suit with him..the culture and illiteracy are the reasons for that...

 

I guess the accused might have thought of destroying the evidence of rape by inserting the rod and cause bleeding...else I don't see any other reason on why the third person would inflict such thing..and thinking it to be a rope might have pulled it off..

Update: The main accused has actually pulled out the uterus and intestines using his bare hands making it a spine-chilling horrific act.

 

On the other day...I cut my nail deep with a nail cutter and I felt it was so painful..

I can't imagine how painful the intestines pulling thing could be..salute the girl for being strong.. And that is mental strength

Trying to guess what might have been going through in her mind till that thing.....

 .....may be she wanted to see her family then..and so didn't wanted to give up..she wanted to get off from the incident safe...and also never wanted her parents to know that..she may be thinking it was her worst nightmare...and once she is out safe..she can be careful next time in choosing a bus..I don't know a million thoughts would have flashed her mind..till she lost her consciousness

About her male friend... I don't think even if he had been 10 years older would have made any difference.. 3-4 ppl overpowered him.. hit him with iron rods..I don't think the person's mind would have even functioned..he would have been in equal shock may be worse...we all know its not a movie, where hero hits 10 in one kick..in real world it is difficult..and more so we are not trained to beat anyone..but to study..get job..earn money..get married..that's all..

Reasons for such crimes

The most important reason behind all this is not the mindset or the upbringing of the perpetrators but it is the.....sheer failure of law and order...
Fortunately or unfortunately the girl was not in a position to even speak after the incident....so she was saved from the ordeal of being harassed by police passing lewd comments on her on asking what she was doing with her male friend.... Read this story..a Rape victim commits suicide..



Public have no trust on police.. This is one of the major reasons for the on-goers not acting..apart from the reasons like coward ness etc


Criminals have more trust on police.. that they can escape easily...



What are women leaders for, when they themselves give up on safety of women. They don't fight for stricter laws cos.they are busy earning by saving rapist ministers..Sheila dikSHIT should resign for her failure..

Another important point.. The media projecting women as sex dolls..these days without item song no movie runs.. The item girls should stop making one...with mature public around I  don't think any amount of nudity/eroticism will be a problem.. Now here comes the culture and illiteracy issue.. We have people who get provoked even by the slightest exposure ..or the worst even a slightest gesture as well..so even girls should act accordingly .. There is nothing wrong in your dress.. But when you have hungry wolves around ..you are at your own..so have to take care of yourself ..
While we talk about safety for women etc, there are some insensitive cheap ones busy encashing even this..Look at that guy smiling while these two dumb girls doing a poonam pandey stunt..

Solution

The details of the criminals should be revealed...but there is risk of their innocent family members being attacked..which makes it a dicey thing for the police to do

 

Severe punishment and quicker one...

 

Most importantly ..no partiality in punishment be it minister or beggar.. In fact the ministers should be executed first for gaining confidence.. This will definitely instil fear..as a minister himself couldn't escape the punishment ..

 

CC tv cameras at all public places and again 24/7 police guarding the cameras.. We have so many thieves around..

Strict rules for police..if failed to protect..they should be fired/suspended depending on severity...cases should be dealt in a proactive manner but not in a reactive manner

In the view of the death of Delhi's braveheart who passed away last night.

Women should leave their coordinates always with their loved ones.. Can't help but secrecy will only be detrimental to your lives. And always be skeptical with others until unless you know them very well.. And don't even trust people, even people like me as well..Who may seem good prima facie.. Who may say some good things just to earn some brownie points and later take advantage... Doubting a good person is ok, but if you mistake with a bad one then your life goes for a toss....there are no good ppl in this world except your family..and some unfortunate ppl don't get that as well..Let your mistrust be a punishment to the mankind.

Death is so easy thing.. Even the criminals know that.. That is why 2 of the accused even pleaded to get hanged..

 

• The guy who pulled the intestine should be made to drink acid...while all others watch it..
• The one who initiated the fight be burnt part of his body..till the muscles are fried..
• Their genitals are to be let bitten and ripped by dogs..
• Like in Guantanamo bay.. Water boarding is to be done..
• They should be forced to sit on thumsup bottle..till half of the bottle goes into their rear and tears up the large intestine (by the way this is one of the practiced interrogation method) and this process should continue again once the injury is healed..

 

• A New Reality Show : Media houses should come up with a new reality show concept where these criminals will be made to stay together and talk about how badly they repent and they should be given tasks like teaching good behaviour to their inmates. They should plead votes from TV viewers on their performance.. and the one who gets eliminated from the show will have to be eliminated permanently from this world..in the most gruesome way..which will not be telecasted to public but the inmates will have to witness this and also have to lend their hands in making the experience more horrific to the eliminated person. This should go on till the last one survives and the last one..who wins the show will be given a peaceful death of hanging.

While this incident has shaken the whole of the nation..there have been many similar incidents happening which hit the news headlines..every day..you see a new story.. Another incident which really disturbed me is this one. The baby girl is fighting for her life in hospital. Her father threw her out from a double storyed building, Her only mistake being born as a girl..I wish the girl survives...

I was sad and happy that Amanat passed away.. Sad that she couldnt see her attackers getting tortured and killed..happy that she is atleast safe and free from pain..somewhere out of the world..

My heart felt condolences to the brave girl..R.I.P

 

An Ignored Soul's Perspective

This incident happened today morning, while I was going to my office...I was walking along one of the busiest roads in Hyderabad.

There are many beautiful plants placed all along the median to decorate the road.....but this naughty one plant spotted me...and taunted me while I was trying to cross the road..

If you see...It's eagerly looking for people to come closer to it.....This pic was taken at 8:30am..so could take a clear picture.. and the next time one can take a clear picture is only after 24 hrs only..I am sure it hates the sun for that very reason...

Intimidated by it...I cross the road..

Plant ..- "Hey Buddy, come closer dude...I know you got an S3..could you please take a snap of mine..."

..I heard that..and as a friendly gesture took this photo...so that it doesnt taunt me the next time, while I keep struggling to cross the road..

 

For a person who is busy driving along the road..these plants seem to be very beautiful ..But a closer examination reveals the reality....it has got loads of grease all over..

I had attended a 2 day workshop on "Leadership & Motivation" recently.

 

I felt 2 days was too little time to cover all aspects but the facilitator utilised the time really well in meeting the expectations of the participants.

How to deal with a yelling boss?

I know a lot of people who are clueless on how to deal with such situations. The person yelling could be an employer, a colleague, a friend or a family member but the thing which makes it more uncomfortable is when the person is your boss.

 

For all those people, who are facing this situation, I hope this post would be of some use.

The reasons why someone gets into such situation

• Misunderstanding the expectations of boss
• Lacking subject knowledge
• Missing a deadline genuinely/carelessness
• By nature the boss being an aggressive person
• Boss's bad mood being carried away
• ....the list goes on

The reasons why such situations become stressful

• Fear of career within and outside the company being at stake

Tactics to overcome such situations

Looking for a change

I want to become a farmer, No! Am not joking nor I am out of my senses. I've had this thought for quite a long time. I want to take a break and go to some village and work on fields, at least for a short period like an internship. I want to sweat out and earn for living.
Am really sick of these brick and mortar jobs of meetings, conferences, emails, presentations which seems all artificial and lifeless.

By being a farmer....
You can experience and feel the nature to the closest....
... breathe the fresh air..
.. stay fit..
...interact with the nature and feel that you are also a part of the ecology

Shor in the city : Rating (3/5)

for a change Tushar kapoor is watchable in this one..the editing of the movie was really good...the story starts with unrelated characters and finally culminates by connecting each of them with a common link..it's a time pass movie..The character 'mandook' is a highlight in this movie..it was played by Pitobash Tripathi- the one in pink shirt in the above pic

full masala.....in terms of story it's no different to any bollywood movie..I didn't like it much.. there was lil comedy.. the car chases werent that interesting...I liked the first car chase in the movie.. where the car dives into a river..breathtaking it was..
but otherwise ..overall the movie was so-so..not worth watching it in a multiplex..

Corruption

It's one thing everyone voices against... be it school kids, adults, even the road side beggar and the most corrupt politicians everyone unanimously speak against it..
I was very surprised when Karnataka CM Mr. B.S Yeduruyuppa, who was in news for all wrong reasons, extended his full support to Anna Hazare.. Even Mr.Y.S. Jagan extended his full support to Anna Hazare... proving the fact that politicians have no conscience at all..

if we try to understand who all are the perpetrators of this so far socially accepted crime ...its not just the high profile politicians... or the policy making bureaucrats... or the law enforcing police...it includes even we all general public..
we have so many corrupt people around... even I am one of them..
traffic police, customs officers, municipality people, brokers at various govt offices..are the ones i bribed so far..I know this is not something to boast about..but these are the few common ones which most of us encounter in our daily lives...who try to take advantage of the inefficiencies, loopholes and asymmetries in the existing system..the delays and opacity in the process are two very common causes for such inefficiencies.....and to override that many of us resort to bribes..

The jan lokpal bill is a good initiative but it's still is a reactive mechanism.. along with that government should analyse the current system...and proactively plug all gaps, inefficiencies so that the scope for being corrupt is minimized..i know it's easy said than done...it took so many decades for the current bill to see some daylight.. if a proactive mechanism has to come in place it would easily take a quarter century or more...



so people before extending your support to the anti-corruption movement...first convince your conscience that you would never involve in any corrupt activities at least in future..

While I was listening to this song of Pakistan People's Party(PPP), it reminded me of an Annamacharya keerthana...
I somehow feel that the tune of the song is a copy of the keerthana...Wonder if am the only one who thinks like that ...
Readers pls check both the songs and tell me if you also think the same...

Dhobighat - my take

"whats so mumbai about it..it could have been any other place in India"
That's my first expression..after the movie ended......
"why is it called dhobighat?" ...except to one of the main actors being a dhobi..doesnt really talk about lives of dhobis..somehow for me the title doesnt seem to be an apt one..



Coming to the characters...

Painter:- Played by Aamir Khan..should really apreciate one fact that being a mega star he took a modest share of the limelight...and acted just like anyother supporting actor..unlike many other stars of his level you see..no comments on his acting..he is the best in whatever he does..

Photographer:- ..wondering what an "investment banking" "consultant"..daughter of filthy realtor is upto.. she says she is on a sabbatical..and got some research grant..studying on south east economies..it was not clear on why she was so interested on the painter and the dhobi..or may be i missed something..her role was not at all a convincing one for me..the most confused role..

Dhobi:- this dhobi's role could have been anything else also..a rickshaw puller or a chai wala..I dont  think the 'dhobi' part has done enough justice to the title of the movie...Apart from that the guy acted well.

Woman on video:- This woman's story seemed to be one complete and convincing one for me..I think she acted well..for whatever little her portion was..

Its a different movie...a 90min movie..without any dance/song nor interval..
It ended in a typical hollywood style..abruptly:)...but anyways we've had enough of happy-ever-after kind of movies..so this is a welcome change..I would rate it 2.99 on 5..

After a long pause comes this post just to assure everyone of my existence.
Oflate I've been quite busy both personally and professionally, hence couldnt catch up with my mates in blogosphere.

When I was in Hyderabad I watched this telugu movie Khaleja, and I so wanted to write a review on that one.  Not that it was an interesting flick but I wanted to enlighten the ignorant crowd that it is a movie inspired by a book.

It's an okayish movie and as expected a typical commercial telugu movie with all aspects of entertainment like comedy,action,over-action, skin show etc. Mahesh babu and Anushka both added to the glamor quotient of the movie.The songs were pathetic except to the one which I liked, "Sada Siva"..If someone had asked me to rate the movie..I would have rated it 3/5 but since it is a copied concept and there is no reference to the original idea I downgrade it to 1.5/5.


 I really wonder if anyone who watched the movie has also read this book "The immortals of Meluha" and not found anything similar. I felt the main theme of the movie and the book were almost same.
Last week I got this opportunity to meet Amish Tripathi, the author of the book, who was surprised that a movie has already come out with his concept. I made this point when he was discussing about his plans to make a movie based on the book.

I've listed out the similarities and have mailed it to Amish, which are as follows.

There is one scene in which Mahesh and Ali booze and then talk about the heroine (played by Anushka), it just resembles the scene when Shiva and Bhadra have marijuana and talk about Sati
The movie has a song "Sada Siva", praising Lord Shiva..which shows that the director of the movie has used the image and character of Lord Shiva to portray the character of the protagonist.
